Hello Chief,
I don't know why this was not implemented a long time ago. Back in 2007 when I reported to the school house to become an instructor in AIT, I met so many Army folks who I never met before. I couldn't understand why and who were all these NCOs. I know that there are other places to go and other duty stations that didn't require service members to deploy, but come on! By the time I reported to the school house, I was just returning from my 5th trip overseas, and a good portion of them haven't step outside the US, not even Germany or Korea. Yes, that rubbed me the wrong way, and eventually got myself in trouble for expressing my feelings openly. But, I didn't care. I still said what I had to say because I don't think it was fair. So, this needed to happen a long time ago in my opinion.

Being a Warrant I could have stayed till 62. My body told me it was time to go. From age 58-60 I realized it was time. I could still pass the APFT with no problem. Was not on profile but my DR told me to walk not run which is a 55 and over option. On my first walk APFT I was surrounded by soldiers in their 30s and early 40s who were walkers. Stunning part was a large percentage were on permanent profile and many did not do pushups or sit ups. They joked about being on permanent profiie. When it's time to go!

During my 20 years in the Army, I think I was on profile three times, two of those instances happened in between APFTs, another one wasn't which I had issues with...my lower back. I did have mixed feelings about permanent profiles until one time in ALC, back when it was still called BNCOC, we did an APFT and instead of running, we did walk for the heck of it. I fail that miserably, ha ha ha.
Like you said, I could've stayed a little longer, but after my trip to Afghanistan, my body was saying "no mas". That's when I knew it was my time. But going back to what you posted, and we can talk about all day long, I'm just glad this is happening. I just could not get my head around the fact that we are fighting two war fronts and all these knuckleheads have not deployed.
