The indigenous people were forgotten way before President Trump was speaking near Mount Rushmore. Instead of taking care of 20k Syrian refugees, what about taking care of the indigenous tribes that have no health care funds for US government mismanaged Indian Health service for half the year because the money ran out before the fiscal year? What about the Indian Reservations that have no running water and you have to bring in water buffaloes? The fault is on both the Republicans and the Democrats. Most Indian tribes do not have casinos and many are isolated and not close to major highways.

The indigenous tribes are scratching their heads seeing the racial strife between the radical factions trying to burn down or take down the existing government. The native peoples have it worse off than even the worst ghetto in the inner city. Native houses or often without heating or running water and there are no paved streets. The streets are not plowed during the Winter and they flood when it rains. Even 4 wheel drive trucks can get stuck in the mud or in the snow. There is no public transportation or cab service available to take them to jobs or to commute around the neighborhood or city. The nearest supermarket could be 10 miles away and even then it could be a small overpriced country store with limited or no fresh food.

You forgot to mention that Trump is biased against Indians. You know, he shows up at a monument that the Sioux people consider to be a discretion of their holy lands in the Black Hills, and defends it. And then he praises Andrew Jackson? Really?

1SG (Join to see) - Henry Standing Bear, yes, but a chief in a tribe doesn't have the authority to commit the tribe to something like that, and he wasn't part of the tribal governance.

Besides, both "monuments" are on stolen land.

Patricia Overmeyer - which is actually one of the nicer things that Black Elk had to say about it.

Capt Gregory Prickett - I think it was the only nice thing he had to say about it. That monstrosity is so disrespectful it needs to be abolished. Yeah, white people need to determine what monuments to erect to honor Native Indians. And once white people make that decision, go find a couple of Native Indians who support the idea and then it's "Look what we done for you and all Native Indians! Aren't we special because this shows we aren't racist". Barf!

You are right. My friend's son went and taught on the PIne Ridge Indian Reservation a couple of years ago and my husband went to help out. Poverty. Real Poverty is what they found Not what you see in inner cities where people complain about not having the latest stuff but real deprivation: no food, lack of jobs and opportunities, hospitals lacking basics including medications, etc.

CW2 Micah Ragins I grew up in a slum in NYC. No heat, no hot water. Rats in building would eat anything including the tires of your bike if you didn't drag it up the stairs because the elevator never worked.
