Would you support a standard uniform for all branches of service? Why or Why not?

I'm Army and I'm for that BUT leave the Marines alone they did it right the first time they went to Digital uniforms.

SPC George Campbell - at the same time, except for the headgear and pockets, the uniforms looked the same, same cut, same camouflage pattern, different headgear, different pockets, different way the sleeves were rolled, you could tell it was a U.S. service member without ever needing to see the specifics of the uniform

I've been saying the exact same thing since I was in & we switched from BDUs to ACUs. It would also be a lot cheaper to clothe everyone with the same stuff.

The only good thing McNamara did was just that - consolidate suppliers & save money.

SGT Dan Gray - I think that was SWOOO CRAPPY when they took the Blk Beret away from you all. I hated it.

The black beret is only worn with dress uniforms as of my retirement date in 2013. Rangers no longer wear a black beret period if you earned it you now wear a tan beret. DA Pam 670-1 chapter 4-10 and 18-3. Google it!

Cpl Phil Hsueh The original question did not specify service/field uniform. It asked if a standard uniform should be adopted. To me, this is a question of economics, practicality and tradition. Each service branch should have something that is practical for the needs of the JOB the SM in that branch is doing. Yes, every member of the military wearing the exact same uniform could save some costs, but then why stop there? If cost is the ultimate concern, do away with visible rank and name and branch tapes on service units, medals and ribbons on dress unis (in fact do away with dress uniforms altogether) The distinctiveness of the uniform for each branch distinguishes each and in an expression of that branches history and traditions with practicality in mind. I recall the first time I saw maternity BDUs and thought, what the hell!? Maternity battle dress uniform? It seemed stupid to me at the moment but I understand that BDU was the daily issue uniform so this allowed expecting SMs to not stick out (pun intended) in formations. I see nothing wrong with each branch maintaining their own uniforms.

IF McNamara was for it. that's the best reason to shit can the idea.

navy doesn't have a need for a "battle dress" uniform, except for those that are involved in special operations, and those stationed on land in a combat theater, but i support a common field (combat) uniform, with common rank insignia placement, so everyone knows where to look for the rank of the serviceman walking towards you, there are many joint service installations that those newbie just out of basic/boot, who don't know the rank structure of other branches, would have problems identifying rank

Did we not do this once before and it did not work out as planned.
