Did you know you can adopt a retired military working dog?
Dogs have been used in warfare since the mid 7th Century. They've been used for countless tasks from delivering messages to sniffing out the enemy to sniffing out explosives. They are amazingly versatile.
These héros have saved tens of thousands of lives since World War II alone. Oddly they were viewed as civilians and not permitted on military vehicles to return home. This year the U.S. Senate voted 71-25 to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes a provision that these dogs will be returned by the military to U.S. soil when they retire, and their handlers will have first options on adopting them as pets.
Even if you were not a K-9 handler you can apply to adopt one of these dogs after it is retired.
