I started studying Anaerobic Digestion as a teenager, after my grandparents gave me a subscription to Mother Earth News. That first issue had an article that sparked my interest.
I recently found a few more pieces of the puzzle that I think can produce a much better small-scale waste management system, to safely and more completely recycle household organic waste into fertilizer.
Most of the world uses unsanitary methods that include direct application of untreated human waste and animal manures that can include parasites.
My goal to put together a small, low-cost, relatively simple anaerobic digester toilet system to enter into the Reinvent the Toilet Challenge of the Gates Foundation. The goal is to reduce deforestation, pollution and disease, while increasing the time available for education and a healthier home environment, including the creation of a safe liquid fertilizer for fruits and vegetables and Biogas for cooking, instead of the smoky, open fires that are most common.
In addition, this can help create more sanitary portable toilets for refugee and homeless camps, military forward base camps, tiny homes, off-grid living, preppers, as well as general public use.
Technical aspects for those interested...

Self Stirring Mesophilic Anaerobic Reactor: SS-MAR as part of an Off-Grid Household Waste...
As part of a toilet and food waste handling system, I am currently attempting to build a prototype SS-MAR.The main section will have 2 chambers of approx
3.85 Billion people... Living w/o sanitation NOW
~3,000,000,000 pounds of raw sewage pollution... 1.5 MILLION tons, DAILY...
It's no longer a 'not in my backyard' issue... It's in the WATER, on the ground and is poisoning the planet.
The goal of my project is to help eliminate this growing problem, turm that waste into a set of value-added assets.
I plan extensive testing, to include destruction of Ascaris Suum eggs
I'm actually trying to avoid using mechanical features, so that it does not have the same wear and tear any mechanical system would experience in a corrosive environment.

"In an effort to reduce pollution, disease and deforestation in impoverished parts of the world; my design brings together an easy to implement, durable anaerobic treatment system with a manual toilet. This makes a safe liquid fertilizer for fruits and vegetables with the added benefit of Biogas for cooking. These can also be portable units for refugee and homeless camps. Commercial sales for off-grid homes, communities for general public use and military forward base camps will offset costs to impoverished areas, while improving the environment."
Thank you, my friend COL Mikel J. Burroughs for mentioning me.
