I'm Disappointed. As a young child growing up in America, I grew up on the legends of Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. I wanted to be an astronaut. I took my AFOQT, qualified to be an officer and a pilot. Then I come across Captain Fetterman of the Lackland Air Force Base who used his position to impede a person of colour from reaching his goal of working with NASA to the great American goal of putting a man on Mars. He had an issue with me choosing to be an officer and being intelligent. He thought I was above my place and also took issue that my father was an immigrant (he's a citizen now). This is not the Air Force I've cared about and not something shared by the many people that I have met along the way who acted so honourably to all races. However, with a dead mother who wanted to see her son become an officer and help America's space program, I wonder if I really know how much my branch cared about me if it can so callously throw me aside. Today, I saw a man with a NASA shirt and I thought, there are people with dreams but more than they they have hope. I have hope as well. If anyone knows of a way to find a federal lawyer to fight this injustice and violation of my rights to equal protection from a system that just says, "No, we just have an issue with bisexual intelligent men of colour amounting to more than what they started out as"

Don’t take this as me being an asshole, but I think what you should do is look into what appeals you’re authorized. If you’re no longer a SM, that shouldn’t stop the dream, but should only fire it up more. I also think you left some of this out. You talk about a dream, how someone took it, and mention at the end you’re Bi. I DGAF about your sexuality now anymore than I did with Joes when DADT was in effect. But there HAS to be a paper trail, some means of accountability than what you’re telling us here, and without that important part, there is nothing anymore can do for you. Either lay it all out, or don’t mention it. We’re just throwing shit out hoping something sticks. You imply you were forced out. What discharge, RE code, what were you counseled on prior to discharge, and where was your NCO support?

I really want to help the guy being that's what we all should want to do, but he's not making it easy. The story doesn't add up, and he's not asking what AFI or regulation would help him out. He's ranting (which is fine), but it's not going to get him any closer to what he wants.

He needs to come clean with what the problem is, and I bet my last dollar he'll get the help he wants IF there is any to give. Not knowing where to look is bad, and doesn't help the cause one bit. I made one last post for him, and I'll sit back, STFU and see where it goes, but I have a feeling this is done as of right now. He hasn't had his come to Jesus moment with himself. That IS the hardest thing to do.

Look in the mirror. That is the only person responsible. Who you sleep with has nothing to do with it. People of all colors have been in the Space program for decades.

This story has holes in it. Throwing your sexuality into the mix is BS. Who cares. You wanted to be treated as an equal then starting acting like one. You mentioned you were Discharge, OK we all were. Stick to the facts and tell the whole story.

There is a lot about this that doesn't make sense. One person alone can not get you thrown out of any service, there are boards and paperwork. Also, if you contacted EO then there would be an investigation or some kind of paper trail. SO much about this is being left out...

Technically you are not even a veteran. You have had to serve on active duty or be called to active orders for a depoyment to be a veteran.

GySgt Bill Smith what benefit was the comment to the conversation? Are you just intentionally being rude?

A1C Ian Williams - I don't follow your response to 1LT (Join to see) Again- I don't think the whole story is out here. I have served over 30 years in the Guard, Reserves, and Active Duty. The frame of the story is not even remotely realistic. I am confused if you were at your ETS or if you were in non-compliance. Again- the Guard in general it is very hard to separate someone that is willing to serve. manning shortages aside- your requirement of two days a month are your only real requirement. The two weeks a year can be waived by your unit commander or you can sign a statement saying you don't want the days. I do take offense to blaming this on the Guard as a whole and assigning it to your personal situation. I find in most cases like that- the person has done something to put themselves in a bad situation and instead of pinpointing the problem- they assign blame. My career has spanned several career fields as well- enlisted and officer so I feel rather qualified to answer it broadly in that respect. My last question is why would you retrain to a job that is obsolete?

A1C Ian Williams - I have run across a few airmen during my career who just didn't fit, they were given every opportunity to try and fit, I even had a young airman who was not suited to be a aircraft mechanic, and was able to get him into a different career field. That being said, there has to be more to the circumstances.

Besides not fulfilling your dream of becoming an astronaut, I hope you never had aspirations of becoming a fiction writer either. Your story isn't remotely believable.
