I was separated from the AF in the 2014 ERB, got separation pay, then was rated at 80%, with 50% of that being a direct result of an injury sustained during combat training. I have since repaid my separation pay and am receiving disability benefits. Since I'm not "combat injured", I didn't give it much thought until I heard the term "In the performance of duty under conditions Simulating War"

If one receives severance pay for one particular(s) body part(s) and one applies for service connection (SC) for such body part(s) and he gets granted SC, the VA will recoup the severance pay money first. Hence. Piece of advise. If one got severance pay he or she might want to apply SC for anything else.
