Oh boy, you nailed it. In spite of my abusive upbringing it was still better.

We didn't do video games to play war, We ran around with our friends and played outside with our toys guns. We built our forts in the woods, We target shot with our .22 rifles. We made go carts from stuff We picked up in the dump like wheels etc along with scrap lumber We had around. A bunch of us would go fishing. I could ride My bike to any of My friends houses and there could anywhere from 5 to 12 of us there. We went swimming in the river, We would play baseball of football with neighborhood kids or in winter used our sleds and We could even steer around trees on the Hill as the sled could be steered. (See picture here of a Flexable Flyer sled like I had) In warm weather We used big sheets of cardboard to slide down grass covered hills and could get that going just as fast as our sleds in the winter. We would go ice skating and even play hockey on some of the frozen ponds. We were never bored.
Our technology was either watch TV or listening to the radio, We did have favorite shows We watched then go back outside. Saturday morning had good stuff on TV I used to go in to listen to the Lone Ranger on the radio at night Then later mornings Amos and Andy also on the radio.

I had a Flexible Flyer wagon. That's right. It had wheels in place of runners, and a hand-brake under the right side.
The previous owner(s) had used the brake badly, and there was a flat section on the right rear wheel where the rubber had worn down. That gave a satisfying "thumpity-thump" as one rolled along on the sled-wagon.
