Nice. Expensive but it will pay off big later on. Not like a liberal arts degree or something like that! LOL

Yes, it is today about 7 times what it cost me to get mine in 1964. I ended up owning two, a 1959 Piper Tri Pacer 160 and a 1964 Cherokee 140. He is a determined young man and will probably go to Texas A&M where his brother is now a sophomore.

Congratulations Matt and Grandpa Don. It is amazing when that instructor gets out of the aircraft and they tell you to take it up yourself. What a feeling of freedom and responsibility rolled into one. I was due to ship out for Basic Training in one week so I finished up my training and took my check ride and was a brand new pilot at Basic Training. I flew a 150G Cessna, a 172 Cessna, a Beechcraft Musketeer, 182 Cessna, 210RG Cessna and currently own that same 150G I took lessons in and its for sale if anyone is interested. It needs tires and an annual and will be ready to go.

Not familiar with Cessna, only one I ever flew was a 140. Don't think Matt will be buying and have no pilot friends in the market, all old guys like me who no longer fly but look up every time we hear a plane. Had models made of the Tri Pacer and Cherokee.

Getting a pilots license is the best thing I did. There is no experience like flying. Congrats to your grandson!

I got mine in 1964. Had a 1959 Tri Pacer and a 1964 Cherokee 140. Would load the 4 kids in the back seat and we would all take off for a soda and coffee for a Sunday "drive". I sold my Cherokee to a man in Wisconsin (we were living in Iowa at the time) and a couple of years ago I checked on the N numbers, the Tri Pacer is gone and the Cherokee was crashed at Cypress Airport, grass strip off Hwy 290 in Houston, TX. I sold it because we were moving to Salina, KS and in 1974 we moved to Houston! FATE? Anyway, the cause was a 19 year old instructor ran it out of fuel and totaled it.
