When the HHC Brigade or HHBn Division/Corps/etc. holds daily PRT/PT formations, do the NCOs and Soldiers present expect to see their Staff Officers present?
Do NCOs and Soldiers want their Staff Officers to be held to the same PRT/PT attendance standards, or as long as they are fit, it doesn't matter?
(I am not talking about unit runs, or other where everybody is participating, just routine days.)

Our Brigade Does. Our 54 year old Brigade Commander does a 300 APFT. He shows up for monthly PT and he runs a 13:30 2 mile run. He commended the 2 soldiers who beat him.

SFC (Join to see) - 20 seconds away from maxing the run but it seems like forever

Thanks for sharing LTC (Join to see) , but I'm not focusing on the fitness of the Officers, more of being at the PT formation and then doing PT every day with their Soldiers.
If your brigade commander, who is a PT stud obviously, did his own PT daily (as he probably knows how to do anyway) and never showed up except to take his APFT, would he still get the same hoahs?
(Obviously, as a Reserve unit, you don't necessarily have daily PT formations, but still looking for perspectives.)

LTC (Join to see) I did not consider active duty vs Reserve component. But you are- correct. Lead from the front and always be seen. It's one thing if it's once in a while due to visits by VIPs or conference calls but to never be seen it morning PT is another story.

Well...I never thought enough about people that Senior when I was humping it, but I can tell you that a seed of derision would form within me if someone was giving me orders to do something they wouldn't.

That is the crux of the matter SN Greg Wright , what if they are doing physical fitness, just not with the troops that make up their unit?
Does it matter that the "juniors" see the "seniors" at the formations and doing fitness at the same time and at the same place?

LTC (Join to see) - Sir - IMHO - yes it matters - It matters greatly that the staff shows up for accountability formation, and to be seen doing PT. Does not have to be every single day, as we know you have things to do from above, but it always lifted the morale of my troops seeing the CSM and BN Commander out there with us as we gave the reports, stood rivaille, and then proceeded to do PT. It also was greatly admired seeing them pick a platoon or squad to do PT with, and not interfere with the NCO conducting training other than the CSM ask what was on the PT schedule for that day.

I believe this serves two very good functions - the first - the young Soldiers see and Know that their command is doing what they are doing, and Command interaction is almost always a positive influence and second, you and your CSM can get a feel on how your Subordinate NCO's are conducting training according to the PT schedules provided to you and the CSM at your command and staff meetings.

When I got moved to s3 after my PSG KD time officers did their own thing. This quickly changed. PT is the only protected time where I can have everyone together. It's important that officers and enlisted build relationshipss through tough shared experiences.

MSG (Join to see), a NCO after my own heart!
I see PRT as a time to team build as well as work on fitness. I think a MAJ Staff Officer should be around his/her staff section outside the office, and doing PRT together is better than many other activities.
