Joe D. This one's for you pal :-)

1. Insure the truck backs all the way up to the house and doesn't add 25 feet to moving the furniture, in addition to having to use a 30 step back deck to get it into the house.

2. Insure the Cheapskate spends the $15.00 above the truck rental to get the hand truck.

3. Ask to see the guest list. You know you're in trouble when you're the only person to get invited.

4. Get a definition of "we're just moving the big stuff" It shouldn't include the whole house that they were supposed to get moved the week before.

Been caught in those kind of moves you described before. I learned to bring my own hand truck for the boxes. Saved a bunch of trips.

Are you kidding me? Ever since I bought a pickup (1974) I've been the "best buddy" by every Tom, Dick and Harry in 8 counties. Everyone wants me to provide the vehicle, my gas, my time and muscle to help them. Don't even talk to me about the scumbags that failed to properly pack their stuff and then tried to sue me when it got to the new place broken. It's even worse when you show up at the requested time (0600) and the entire family is still snug in their beds and absolutely nothing has been packed or prepped. I made the mistake of staying around for one of those situations - but no more. If I consent to assist you I tell you up front what I want and expect. I don't see / get what I asked for....up front - I'm outta there quicker than you can saw "aww shucks".

I have no problem helping, just don't expect me to do the majority of the lifting for nothing.
