Obsolete Garden Publication
My children and I were featured in this magazine for their awards they earned at a fair with vegetables they grew.

Great job dad! I learned a lot from my father. He was so talented in the many things he did.

SGT Mary G. - That is an excellent statement. My kids at time hated me for the things I made them do when they were growing up but each has told me they are glad we raised them the way we did. They are all responsible adults with an excellent work ethic and doing well. None are married or have made us grandparents but are content with their lives. (One daughter had cancer and had to have a hysterectomy so no chance there unless she adopts which I doubt she will do but you never know,)

Cpl Vic Burk - I think we have a lot in common but I rode in black helicopters and 70 ton tanks. I did but I am just kidding you.

MAJ Ken Landgren - Thank you. Not so sure any wisdom gained is ever too late, though. But I know what you mean. Maybe we can consider later wisdom graceful wisdom? lol.
A person with a lot of wisdom and generosity of spirit once told me that we can not always give back to those who have given us something of value (i.e. non-material), that one of the best ways we can express gratitude is to do the same for others. It's more or less the idea of "pay it forward" decades before it became a slogan.

Cpl Vic Burk - Thanks. I think good parents all have a similar experience. Laying down the law is not always easy, but it is necessary. The intention determines outcome. I think grown kids appreciate parents more who do not try to manipulate them into marriage and parenthood. Everyone needs time to get to know who they are to be able to prepare themselves to embark on that journey.
Any way that children come into one's life is a blessing. My sister and brother are both adopted (as infants). My experience at the time was that that we hadn't actually been a "real" family before they arrived.
