I’m a PV2 at my first unit. I’ve been in for 9 months and definitely want to go to college while I’m in. I’d like to go officer and I don’t know which way to go. Either green to gold or to get out and re-enlist as an officer. My asvab scores are decent (127 GT and all other scores range from 127-129) I’m pretty squared away and it almost sticks out from my peers. I don’t know if that’s from being out of IET for a short period of time or what. Any information would be great, thanks!

You're really going to want to get 4 years in so you get that bump in pay for being prior enlisted. On top of you really don't want to be a know-nothing officer when you have the opportunity to learn something before you commission.

Yeah I saw on the pay charts the difference from O-1 and O-1E, not completely sure how it works whether you need a degree first or not. But planning on having or at least almost done with a degree by the time everything happens, which would probably be around my 4th or 5th year. 6 year contract I’ve got some time

Think about the first lieutenants in your unit and see how they deal with different situations; most of them are fresh out of school. If you have access to any warrant officers talk with them for some of the greatest advice possible.

PV2 (Join to see) - You need 4 years and a day to get the O1E. You will then be called a mustang. Stay strong, it all depends on the service. Some officers who are not prior enlisted and become jealous and try to hold you back from making up the ranks.

I'd wait a little longer before taking that plunge, but the choice is yours.
