I am currently a 68C, and I am 43 college credits into completing my associates degree. I love nursing and could see myself continuing in this field for many more years. Recently I have stepped into the begining stages of starting either an AECP packet or a green to gold packet. I know a little bit of a lot about both of the programs (from briefs and lots of googling) however I do not know anyone personally who has completed either. I am open to pursuing either program because the end result would be the same, a commission into the army nurse corps. I would love to hear advice, information, or even opinions on either option.

Any advice is appreciated.

I am retired now and went through the AECP program. It was great. No break in service and remained on active duty. Even stayed living on base while I went to school. No disruptions to family. You have 60 calendar months to complete so you attend during summer session. When your off you don't burn leave. Your off when school is off. I would definitely recommend AECP

No
It means that you continue on Active Duty and you go to school full time

SGT (Join to see) I can't speak for any AMEDD programs, but I went Green to Gold back in 2000. I don't know about the competitiveness of the AMEDD programs, but GtG wasn't as difficult as you'd think because Division Commanders have 5x Hip Pocket scholarships every year that typically don't get used. That's what I would look into - but I'm biased because that's the only one I really know much about.

I know this is old but I was wondering.. with the hip pocket scholarship coming from the CG, does that guarantee coming back active duty?

So, both the previous comments are good and valid. Both will get you to your goal as you know. I believe the AECP for Nursing is one of the best programs in DoD actually. As stated below you remain on active duty (no break in service), retain pay and benefits, and can focus on schooling. GtG is RTC and you will ETS and enter school as a cadet, there is a break in service and the Scholarship only gives you a stipend and there is a break in service for your time in. Unless you just want to add an ROTC Class/Lab, other FTXs and extra-curricular "mandatory" events, and make a lot less money then the AECP is the best bet.
