Budget blaster shooter, the Savage Hog Hunter in .308. THis guy reaches out to 70 yards and does some damage to the steel plate at the other end. maybe not sniper good, but for a rifle and scope combo in the $700 range , it is good to know it can get the job done. The owner in another video talks about reinforcing the stock on the cheap. Full disclosure I have the HH in .223 and find it to be very accurate, 5 rounds on a dime at 100 yards all day long. The scope is a Leopold 1.5-4 X hog hunter with the pig plex. I would shoot further if it were possible in the cheap but the nearest 300 yard range is over 2 hours away. Any of the Savage offerings with the AccuTrigger option are good out of the box. The Axis is a decent "cheap" one. You can spend more, and get more, but budget wise Savage is pretty good.

This combo was flying out the door @ my local hunting Supply store here. Great price on a good solid rifle. I want to say they were out the door for high 3's low 4's....I need a bolt ...223/5.56 This may be an option or a Remington 700.

the stock is not so special, but this guy demonstrates it can be fixed with little no cash. If you need a check weld for a scope, a simple generic FAL check rest can be had for about $10 and two screws and some sand paper to adjust it to fit. This is not a light rifle that you want to drag up in the high alpines by any stretch, but it is damn accurate as a .223. My only complaint, is the blind magazine, even that is minor as it a thing I would change. But at that price point, you find a rifle with those features, that is straight shooter out of the box. A buddy of mine with a 1st gen Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle in .308 commented on how much smoother my bolt was compared to his. It is a good rifle, and put a decent scope on it, and it is a damn nice accurate shooter, that doesn't break the bank. I can't say about the .308, as I don't know anyone with one, but I expect it is a good shooter as well.

I just checked online prices for the rifle right now are around $450 and up. Considering you are getting a rifle with an accur-trigger, a "tapered bull barrel" it is quite a deal.

$450! Guns and dogs are like kryptonite for me. If I walk into a gun show or dog shelter, I'm probably gonna walk out with something.
