Texas must air-condition its prisons for basic humanity's sake

Can you imagine being in a stone building with 2 foot thick walls...it's 100 degree's outside and inside it about 140 degrees. Can you imagine being so hot...that you are cooked from the inside out? the latest inmate to die from the heat....had a body temperature of 109.6 degrees...he cooked to death!!
Do you think that with a supply of ICE water and a few fans...that you would be able to with stand 140 degrees?
In Texas...where the temperatures between mid June and first week of September, the temperatures are at a constant 98-105 degrees....and the prisons DO NOT HAVE AC...at least in the areas where the inmates are. The offices have AC...the infirmary has AC, but the inmates do not have AC...they have a Day room that has windows opened and ONE HUGE fan and lots of ice water. In their Cells...there are NO windows....NO ventilation...they are closed in with NO AC...and if they have family or friends who will put money on their commissary they can buy a fan. A LITTLE...ISTSY BITSY teeny weeny fan...
It's like putting someone in a hot car....you get baked alive. One Inmate who died...had a body temperature of 109.4. he litterally COOKED to death from the inside out.
THE Attorney General KEN PAXTON...is fighting this judges order and doesn't want to allow Some inmates...the ones who are sick...ones with High blood pressure, heart disease...older inmate 70 yrs plus....he does not want to allow these folks to be put into an AC facility.
WHAT THE HECK?!?!?!
WHAT A COLD HEARTED...HEARTLESS SOB he is. Shame on Him...he has NO compassion...No Humanity and should be fired.
According to Texas Department of Criminal Justice....they claim it'll be 2.1 million dollars to install AC into the Texas Prisons, yet several TEXAS based AC companies have estimated the cost to be around $450,000 to $650,000...a far cry from TDCJ's supposed estimate.
perhaps they should cut the salaries of the guys at the top making SIX figures a year.
I find this DEPLORABLE and INHUMANE. I agree with the JUDGE and all of the other folks.
THE AC does not have to be on all of the time. ONLY ON THE DAYS where the temps are ??? Let's say above 90 degrees...that would only be around 90-100 days of the year....so it's not like it'll cost that much more....and don't put the AC any lower than....80 degrees...

wow, where do you get your information? Full Disclosure, I retired 2017 Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I spent most of my time Facilities HQ. 10 years on units. One, cost to install Air conditioning will require major construction as much of the older units are not ready to accept A/C. More realistic number is 2 Billion US Dollars. for 108 Prison units. Two, Equipment that massive can not be cobbled together. not like a WalMart of 100,00 square feet 30 foot floor to roof where you can rack and stack off the shelf 25 ton units to cool the store. Set aside the scale of the job, should you find two billion, and 6 years, the systems will need to be operated and maintained. The addition of the air conditioning load will exceed the power load the properties can support.

TX has always been in the dark ages as far as prison conditions go. There may be other states just as bad, but anything TX has ever done recently to improve the physical condition of prisoners has been forced upon it by the courts. TX has resisted at every turn in the road and will probably continue to do so.

Does penitentiary life in a Texas prison suck? Yup. But then, was it supposed to be accommodating, fun, leisure time? These are felons, not shoplifting wayward teens

Sgt Kelli Mays I'm all for Prisoners Paying for their Crime but You are Right this is Physical Abuse, No Ifs Ands or Buts. Thanks for Enlightening Us about the Conditions in Prison. Thank You for Doing the Christian Thing and Being the Voice of these Prisoners.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - the most recent inmate to die of HEAT had a body temperature of 109.6 degrees. He literally cooked to death...from the inside out. I just cannot understand why AG Paxton keeps filing against the judges orders. he just filed for the 2nd time to block the orders from the judge.
