Climate Change Doesn’t Need Your Opinion

The craft of a stage magician is primarily distraction. The performer gets you to “look over here” so that you don’t see what he is doing over there. Our current president is very nearly a master magician in how he manipulates the media and uses Twitter to keep up a constant distraction so that the news media never has a moment to notice the more substantive things that he is doing to accomplish his economic oligarchic goals.

Let me spell this out: if Donald Trump has a core belief, it is just this – that the very wealthy should be allowed to soak up an ever larger amount of the wealth of the nation and it doesn’t matter if you have to destroy the environment or bankrupt schools or take away health care from tens of millions of people in order to do that.

Let's look at your assertion. Tell me, please, how does President Trump's support of Opportunity Zones fit into your view that he believes that " that the very wealthy should be allowed to soak up an ever larger amount of the wealth of the nation and it doesn’t matter if you have to destroy the environment or bankrupt schools or take away health care from tens of millions of people in order to do that"? Now tell me, please, how does the Green New Deal (or any variation of that) do anything but allow the wealthy "to soak up an ever larger amount of the wealth of the nation and it doesn’t matter if you have to destroy the environment or bankrupt schools or take away health care from tens of millions of people in order to do that"? I could offer more challenges to your point of view, but these two should suffice. The simple fact is that President Trump has consistently supported policies that have brought more opportunity to the poorest than any other President in modern history (especially President Obama). Another simple fact is that Congress has fought President Trump at every turn (yes, that includes the GOP-controlled Senate) and that green energy projects have brought wealth to the wealthy without doing a damn thing for the environment or climate change. And, if anyone is ruining education, look only to those who control our schools and colleges, the progressive Left that also controls the Democratic party.

PO2 Harold Ashton - No, they are not assertions. They are facts. Opportunity Zones are a fact and it is a fact that they were inspired by a collaboration between President Trump and Senator Scott. Green energy has been a failure in every respect save one. It has been an economic boon for the wealthy. That is a fact. Wind and solar cannot exist without government subsidies. So, the wealthy invest in them only because the government ensures they will make money, and the poor lose two ways: (1) They pay the taxes that pay the subsidies and (2) they pay the higher cost for their energy. Those are facts. Finally, I responded directly to your assertions, rather than the article's, because you took me in that direction. Notice that I "quoted" your assertions in my responses.

There is little value in pointing out the rules of the marketplace. They exist - as Trump knows - to be abused and manipulated. The good news about Biden (expect reject here) is that the wealthy WILL pay more in taxes that pay those subsidies. Out of your wealth of wisdom, kindly validate your assertion that green (renewable) energy has been a failure. I'm waiting.

PO2 Harold Ashton - I am in favor of the cheapest option without subsidies. The Green New Deal is not that. It is Government handouts to preferred providers, very similar to the Obama Solyndra deal. That was $535 Million taxpayer dollars down the toilet. There would be no need for it at all, if renewables were the most competitive within the free market. Let them compete I say...I will favor the cheapest provider.

Col Joseph Lenertz - Uh, govt "handouts" are something you should discuss with your friendly House and Senate. And, if you are honest in saying you will favor the cheaper provider, here ya go.

Although natural disasters are a part of existence on planet Earth, climate change increases the intensity and frequency
