One of my favorite hikes was Mt. Washington in summer. Was very warm day. However due to ice melt overflowing a river, a ranger recommended I go up a trail on the north slope- alone. Was before long sinking most steps into deep soft snow 2-3 feet down. Exhausting, trail markers became buried in the snow. Lost my trail, but from map, compass and ridges I could see, went pretty close to right way to top. Later at lower elevation I and others saw a storm coming on fast. We all kept together, put our rain gear on over warm clothes and headed for an emergency shelter to spend the night. Small hut with bunk beds. About 10+ guys mostly shoulder to shoulder in warm bags, Floor was covered in deep hard ice. Nice day next morning, and beautiful weather again.

This one is blessed since I live in the Big Sky Country of Montana... wide open spaces and not that many people. I enjoy hiking up and down along the Yellowstone River then wading out to the islands to look for Agates, Montana Agates, Petrified Wood and sticks from Beaver Dams that I hand sand, stain then put two coats of polyurethane on them then a rubber tip turning them into walking sticks after all is said and done.

This one is retired and has found the place where he will take his final stand on this road called life, my ashes will be spread in the Beartooth Mountains of Southcentral Montana. No casket, no headstone and not into six feet of dirt above me.... Spread my ashes where the Eagles cry as they soar on the up drafts, the Elks Bugle and the Bears be they Black or Grizzlies live....

May you all find the place you can love the way I love the land and people in Big Sky Country.
