How long does it take to be chaptered out for failure to pass PFT?

Okay so, my boyfriend has failed his PT test multiple times and was told about 2 weeks ago that he is being chaptered out. Can anyone tell me about how long this process takes? He has already completed the online courses and tests, the hearing and vision test and is scheduled for his physical on the 23rd of this month. What all does he have left to complete? He has asked his command how long the process will take but no one will tell him anything. He is currently in VA at AIT schooling.

It takes as long as it takes for them to get around to it. An APFT chapter is very low priority

The real answer is not soon enough. The minimum standards to pass the PFT are really not that demanding and with very little effort are achievable.

while, in theory and on principle, I agree, there may be extenuating circumstances. Not everyone who fails PT is a lazy dirtbag. My nephew got chaptered for PT failure after 18 months service. maxed PU, maxed SU, couldn't pass the run. Turns out he had an undiagnosed heart defect that was missed at MEPS and again by the military docs when he went to the clinic complaining about shortness of breath. His CoC and medical all just assumed he was lazy. 24 and had a massive heart attack less than 6 months after his discharge. No history of heart problems before then. He was able to work with the VA and managed to get his General Discharge changed to a medical retirement because it was determined that military service worsened his condition.

Unsatisfactory Performance – Chapter 13
Generall "WHAT MUST THE COMMAND DO?
Adequate counseling and rehabilitation efforts must be made before your Commander can initiate separation. You should not be separated for unsatisfactory performance as a sole basis unless there have been efforts to rehabilitate you. Once it is determined that separation under this paragraph is warranted, your Commander will take actions specified in the Notification Procedures, Chapter 2, AR 635-200. This action can only be initiated when you are under military control unless confined by civil authorities and your military records indicate that you should be processed for separation by reason of unsatisfactory performance."

Is a grey area, effectively it means what ever the separation authority says it does. And that criteria must be known and upheld by the unit...
In most units it would be counselling, APFT administered by a set of test personal who have been "certified" It would include interviews with the unit PA, Master fitness trainer , a training plan for improvement and "reasonable" time to improve performance ..again reasonable means what the separation authority says it does the unit simply complies..So that could be 30 days, 90 days, 180 days and improvement could be 1 point increase of passing score.
This all will(should be) laid out to your solder in a counseling document which will include a plan of action. If your soldier does not have this he unit is not doing the job well, or your soldier is not being truthful.
