Does going from a TRADOC unit to a FORSCOM unit in the same duty station reset a soldiers YMAV?

YMAVs are an interesting beast. It will reset the date of last PCS because it is a no cost- low cost PCS and must be directed by HRC. That could and should reset the YMAV because it's a PCS, but that doesn't mean it will. The branch manager can manually update the YMAV if it doesn't

SSG Dennis Mendoza you can directly apply for broadening assignments. Drill, Recruiter, Enlisted Aide, Defense Attache, IG, EOA, and SARC can all be applied to directly and outside your YMAV. There's a time on station requirement that you've met long ago. Your YMAV is like a DEROS. It's the date that, if nothing else has happened by the time it rolls around, your branch must evaluate you for your next assignment.

SFC (Join to see) that's exactly how I was told it was but with my current MOS 13M that I had to obtained when I came back in 2017, it definitely has been a different experience. I literally have witnessed the previous 13m branch manager lie to NCOs faces and when I asked my current 13m branch manager about a broadening assignment he mentioned the marketplace and that's when the YMAV came into the conversation. He said that I need 36 months on station and that 6 months prior to me making 36 months my option to the morley place will open up, that's when I told him that I had gotten stuck as permanent party in the TRADOC unit and then got transferred to the FORSCOM unit and I asked him if that time in the TRADOC unit should count as my time on station. My branch manager responded with yes your time should just have rolled over to the new unit and I don't know why your YMAV got reset.

SSG Dennis Mendoza that sounds about right. Your YMAV doesn't replace your TOS. Those broadening assignments are not managed by your branch manager but by nominative branch so you can apply directly to them. Your branch manager only puts people on assignment when enough people don't volunteer to meet the quota he has to fill. That's the difference between "DA Select" and volunteering. Don't worry about the YMAV, it doesn't have to be reset for you to move to a broadening assignment, that determines when your branch will move you. You can be accepted to any broadening assignment under Nominative branch directly and they will move you.

SFC (Join to see) oh ok this is definitely different than what branch briefed while they came to Korea, and this new branch manager pretty much told me that I need to have my 36 months time on station and ASK-EM available for me to be able to attempt to get a broadening assignment. In a few months the battalion CSM is going to have us fence in to the battalion so we can't orders to PCS, reclass, or any other assignment that would take us away from going back on another rotation to Korea.
Seems like there's a lot going on in this unit that doesn't seem right, from my other experiences in my other MOS or duty stations before ETSing in 2014 and coming back in 2017.

YMAV is now added to the Assignment Satisfaction Key (ASK) website.
Under the Preferences/Volunteer tab on ASK, Soldiers will be able to view their YMAV. They should reach out to their Assignment Managers at HRC if they have any questions or concerns reference their YMAV.
HRC derives a Soldier's YMAV based on arrival to unit, tour length, or tour type, and a number of other considerations. However, if a Soldier has a disqualifying indicator in their record, such as an adverse action, pending action, or other medical, legal, or administrative reason, then the YMAV is set to the ETS date until the action is resolved.
YMAV is already available in EDAS (PS screen) and we are currently working to make it available in WebEDAS as well.
First Termers will not be assigned a YMAV. Also NCOS that are approaching their Mandatory Retirement Date.
Keep in mind a YMAV could also change based on Army requirements.
in the near future YMAVs will be used in concert with the ASKEM in the Enlisted Manning Cycle.

SSG Dennis Mendoza - yeah, I had already PCS'ed when it became a thing, so it was never a variable that's come up. . Damn Army and it's newfangled acronyms...

SFC Michael Hasbun I know right, so my situation was that I came back in and of course the Army had me re-class and after graduating AIT I got stuck as permanent party in the TRADOC AIT unit and a year later I got transferred to FORSCOM unit. My branch manager informed me that my time in the TRADOC unit should roll over to the FORSCOM unit because I wasn't on a broadening assignment. Now my S1 is telling me my branch manager is wrong.
