CSM Charles Hayden - I won't correct someone on how they speak, all I have to do is understand the point they were making and we are good !

Gene, like you, 1sG John Millan, SFC George Smith & SMSgt Lawrence McCarter, I too am guilty of this grammar faux pas. I have two dictionaries by my computer, an old Webster's Collegiate Dictionary & a much newer Webster's Dictionary of American English but neither does much good if I can't find the word I'm trying to spell. Some times when I do find the correct spelling, it is so different than how I was trying to spell the word. "Spell Check" must be compiled by a British team as it will indicate an incorrect spelling for an American English spelling but okay the British spelling. For amusement, read articles by today's college graduates in the newspaper business to see not only poor spelling but the grammar is terrible. You may have to read it several times to understand what is being said. As Yoda says "To be understood, write and speak well you must".

Colonel Wallace -
You are absolutely right about the way young people write today.
While no of us is perfect, the least we can do is try our best to write properly.
But in their defense (to a degree) English Composition is rarely found in the school curriculum today and when it is, it is only a one semester course.
I taught undergraduate courses for several years and was appalled at how poor were the writing skills of the students in general.
One time I wrote something on the board in cursive and one young man sat there staring at it as if it were Greek. I asked if he had a question about it and he admitted he couldn't read it. I asked if anyone else had a problem with it and no one did. (My penmanship is not extraordinary but it is certainly legible)
Come to find out he had never been taught to read or write in cursive for up until recently it had ceased to be required instruction in either public schools or home school curriculum.
Their spelling was also a disaster - even with spell check.
I was pretty strict with the grading and was not their favorite instructor but they eventually got better which was the intent.

Have a great day and don't try thinking too much about how things will be when we are gone.

LTC Wayne Brandon. I agree with you that none of us is perfect but we need to do our best. My wife was a teacher & I did substitute teaching when my flying would allow it & was also amazed that the students could not read nor write cursive writing. Our government did our children a disservice when they began to dictate education policy. The elimination of Penmanship, Introduction to Art & Music has taken away from their overall education in my opinion. And with the introduction of the New Math, students get confused even more & their total education suffers. It's no wonder that other countries place higher in all education courses than the US students. And we can thank the non-education trained politicians sitting in Washington DC playing Tic-Tac-Toe on their Congressional computers.

LTC Wayne Brandon - I am concerned for my great grandchildren when I am gone. What we as a country have allowed to happen, to leave our future generations in such a sad state of affairs, is mind boggling. I believe Bible prophesy has the answer. God is in control and such things have to happen in order for world events to take place. The USA must be removed from prominence as the world leading Super Power so that Prophetic happenings take place against Israel. That requires a long Bible study to fully understand.
