I am from a small farm town about 15 miles north of Terre Haute. I believe you’re the first Hoosier I have run into since I’ve been on RallyPoint. I think we grew up about 40 miles from each other. We were not farmers but I loved and lived for my horses.

PO2 Frederick Dunn - If you ever get the chance, Northern Idaho is unbelievable. coeur d'alene is Great, this amazing little city around a lake and resevoirs surrounded by mountains. Just up the road is Silver mtn, site of the worlds longest Gondola ride to the top of the Mt. Swiss Engineers helped design it. I have skied it, and add that to the bucket list. But might as well do the full monty. There is a loop thru that whole area including parts of Montana & into Canada. Its like one of the top scenic trips in the US and best done in a sports car or motorcycle. Called the Selkirk loop. My friends from Germany say it rivals parts of Austria and the Alps.

PO2 Frederick Dunn - Harley Davidson sponsored a womens Bikers ride. Genevieve Schmidt is one of them, a writer and pretty amazing lady. But she did a write up about it. They gave all these women bikers from all over the world (PR-Most were writers or filmmakers-Media) a selection of bikes to ride and they sent a support truck and mechanics.
(How come I dont get those gigs???). Anyrate,, if you got some time check it out. There was a film made too.. I will see if I can find it.

PO2 Frederick Dunn - Our home place is about 30 miles from Terre Haute. We loved growing up on the farm. My wife and I graduated from Cloverdale High School in the 1970's and I graduated from IU in Bloomington in 1978. We loved our 25 years in the Air Force, but decided it was time for something different. A lot of folks moved into Owen County while we were gone, so it is a lot more crowded than it was. Still beautiful, but we like living down here in the Shawnee National Forest. Still have a cottage outside Spencer and go to the farm on a regular basis, though.

Maj John Bell - I do know 2 recent retirees from the Military who DID move out of the US. Did not have anything to do with the elections though. I think one went to Costa Rica for some tropical paradise on the beach and a very low cost of living. The other moved to the Philippines for same reason. He said he can live like a king on his pension.

A1C (Join to see) - My wife and I toyed with the idea of turning the farm over to my daughter and moving to Ecuador. Nothing to do with politics. I've had enough of Michigan winters. But, we are definitely rural folk and there is a lot of difficulty with getting and holding onto rural property of any size as an expat in Ecuador.
