I am only retiring because I was told that once I receive a VA rating of 40% or higher I will medically retired and only collect a lump sum payment. Is it worth going IRR? My unit is no help.

I'm 60% VA and they mobilized me so that's complete crap.

I was told you can be 100% VA and still be in as long as you can deploy.

I was told it is due to being in an overmanned career field. I spoke to my command about it and they said it is the units directive.

Can you change career fields or components? If you want to continue I'm sure there are opportunities

At my current rank E-7 that would be next to impossible

I've seen it done. I think it would be worth exploring if it's something you enjoy and you prefer the idea to retirement.

All I will say is, look into your medical readiness regulations.

You can continue to serve with 50%+ so long as you can maintain readiness, at least in the AF Reserves.
