Active duty to reserves..to IRR?

I’m in search of some answers here. I finished up my 4 years AD last September and moved on to the reserves. I had a “good year” and completed all IDT and ADT. I’m attempting to switch over to the IRR and have been having serious communication issues with my command about the situation of me trying to switch over to IRR. It seems like nobody has the answers that I need as to what I need to do in order to successfully execute this. I know you need to have a good year in order to be eligible, but does anybody know what else needs to be done? Also, will have to miss this coming drill weekend due to a family emergency and am now being told that if I do not show up they will discharge next and change my re enlistment code on my DD-214 (that I already have) to a RE4 from a RE1...anybody know if that is even possible?

I wouldn't go IRR.. you arre already done 25 percent for retirement... You dont want to be the sad sack crying about how you should a..stayed in. My Friend who went IRR has to work until 70.. He's 62. My brother went IRR and I changed his mind .
He's 60 now and getting paid. About the other BS ..either ignore it or tell them to put it in writing... ask to do a make up drill or talk with the Cheif... no bad years keep all your lES's and paperwork.

You have to keep still going to drill before you transfer into the irr. I knew a friend in the Army Reserve who took him 4 months and that was with him, making calls, going to office and making sure that his file was an overlooked. You'll be dealing with civilians. Your commander or his boss may not want to sign off on your packet. If you are in a high Readiness unit or boat Squadron, you may not be able to go into the irr unless you can show a need. In the Army Reserve, you have to miss Nine unit training assemblies before they chapter you out. That is missing four and a half days of drill.

You have two completely separate questions here; you need to ask them separately. One question involves transitioning into the IRR, and the answer to that may serve useful to future members who search the RP answers database. The other question involves punishment for missing a drill. That could also be a useful question. However, those aren't even closely related. You should ask them as two separate posts.

Both relate to the reserves.
