Capt Gregory Prickett Obama actually killed it before he left office... but 45 revived it.

Construction on the 1,200-mile pipeline began last year when former President Donald Trump revived the long-delayed project after it had stalled under the Obama administration.

It would have moved up to 830,000 barrels of crude daily, connecting in Nebraska to other pipelines that feed oil refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Biden canceled it in January over long standing concerns that burning oil sands crude would make climate change worse.

I have a feeling Trump put the EPA in the dark ages as he tremendously deregulated the agency. It appears some people don't understand the concept of spraying more chemicals on the farms and fields means more chemicals finding its way to the water. Some people don't give a rats ass the creeks, rivers, and lakes are polluted; and it impacts the livelihood of the creatures relying on the water. Some will think contaminants, pollutants, and chemicals will never threaten the water we drink.

I will paint a different picture. When settlers started to arrive in America, they were astounded by the immense forests, flora and fauna, and the rivers and lakes so clear and full of fish. England was domesticated. America was wild and free.

We are changing the definition of the world and it is upsetting and sad. If earth is the good mother, we are killing her. We are destroying what is beautiful and natural. This is a human infestation.

I'm not heartbroken. We HAVE to transition away from oil....

And these statistics are old. There's been quite a bit more since then.

I note that you don't give a comparison of pipeline incidents vs rail, or pipeline incidents vs tanker truck, or pipeline vs fuel barge.

I am a volunteer firefighter. Every year I must go to a joint government and commercial sponsored seminar on fuel and hazardous material transportation incidents. If you do a comparison of deaths and injuries and'/or property damage (clean up), pipeline transportation is so much safer you wonder why any other method is used. And the number of incidents is very misleading. That vast majority of pipeline incidents are associated with retail lines, not wholesale distribution lines. Homeowners and contractors that fail to call "miss dig" to locate pipelines BEFORE they start digging are far and away the major cause of those fatalities and property damage; not wholesale pipelines.

Maj John Bell - the rail lines and highways don't typically cut through Native American land

SrA John Monette - That's your position? Really? Do you honestly believe that Native American lands do not have rail lines and national highways that pass through them, or that fossil fuel transportation is restricted from using those rail lines and highways that pass through tribal lands. Please tell me I misunderstood.

Please feel free to peruse 25 USC Ch. 8: RIGHTS-OF-WAY THROUGH INDIAN LANDS.
There is even a bureau within the Department of Transportation that is dedicated to helping tribes with safe operation of tribal owned pipe lines, and the safe transportation of hazardous materials (including fossil fuels) through tribal lands, by rail or truck.

SrA John Monette - The most dire predictions, based on current technology, current known reserves, and current economic and population growth rates:

Oil Reserves will end by 2052 – 30 years time
Natural Gas Reserves Gas will end by 2060 – 40 years time
Coal Reserves will end by 2090 – 70 years time
Source Stanford University, Millennium Alliance for Humanity and the Biosphere,

The International Energy Agency estimates are nearly three times longer, in a categories for fossil fuels. (Six time longer for coal)
Source IEA, Oil Energy Futures Report 2020.

When has technology stood still?
Who is saying all fossil fuel reserves are known?

So you said you "know [fossil fuel energy sources] won't be around shortly." What is "shortly" in your book and who are your sources.

I suggest you don't try to people how I "feel" about an issue. You're not good at stating my opinions and feelings for me. How about we stick to issues, instead of character assassination? Or is your argument ineffective with out emotions?

Maj John Bell - Make sure that you research the fact that land which is no longer Tribal Land, land held in Trust for the Tribe, or land which is owned by Tribal members, can still be designated as Indian Country or part of a Reservation, and subject to the agreement of the Tribe. Your best bet is to find a copy of Cohen's Handbook of Federal Indian Law, probably available in your local law library. Or, if you want to research the actual treaties, look to the Oklahoma State Library online collection of Indian Affairs: Laws and Treaties (5 volume set), edited by Kappler. Or, if you prefer a hornbook, try Fletcher's Federal Indian Law. If you like casebooks, try Cases and Materials on Federal Indian Law (Getches, Wilkinson, Williams, Fletcher, and Carpenter). Or you could try and contact noted legal experts, like I did years ago, all of whom were generous with their time in responding to my questions.
