California Moves Forward with Reparation Plans

From the story: California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday said his state is moving forward with efforts to create “a more equitable and inclusive future for all” at the first meeting of the state’s task force to study proposals for reparations for African Americans.

Thank you my friend Lt Col Charlie Brown for posting the Salem Radio News Daybreak Insider [that I also receive via email each weekday] extract focused on "California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday said his state is moving forward with efforts to create “a more equitable and inclusive future for all” at the first meeting of the state’s task force to study proposals for reparations for African Americans"

This seems ludicrous since California was never a slave-holding state although native Americans certainly held slaves of captured people.

California Opens Door to Slavery Reparations With Historic Bill Signing.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a first-of-its-kind bill to officially consider reparations for slavery.
The bill does not commit to a specific payment, but instead authorizes the creation of a group dedicated to studying reparations.
The nine-person task force will propose whether reparations should be made “through compensation or restitution.”.
It will also recommend the elimination of state laws and policies
that “disproportionately and negatively affect African Americans.”
It's not just a question on a questionnaire … but actually taking shape here, that's a meaningful moment … This conversation is so long overdue,
Gavin Newsom, via ‘Complex’.
The task force’s first meeting must take place before June 2021.
It will be required to present its recommendations report one year later.

I did not know that California had ever allowed slavery. If there were not slaves in CA, who would reparations be paid to? Lt Col Charlie Brown LTC (Join to see) LTC Stephen C.

CSM Charles Hayden Didn’t mean to step on your toes. It’s just that I heard about the topic some time back and found slavery was common long before we arrived. As to the age, don’t bet on it.

MCPO Roger Collins Not necessarily before we arrived, but slaverly existed(s), but worldwide. Did you see the photo of my first car, a 1934 Chrysler Coupe? Cars and women, always younger than myself!

CSM Charles Hayden When I was a teen, we bought Model As for $50, drove them till they died. I’m really jealous of your ‘34 Chrysler.

MCPO Roger Collins When it died, after several con rod bearing r & r’s on a concrete deck, Frank Reno and I punched a hole in the gas tank to drain the remaining gasoline before towing it to the junk yard.
