You know what most of these cities have in common - they have been run by democrats for decades, and have some of the toughest gun restrictions in America. Criminals don't give a shit about "gun control"

SSG Robert Perrotto - Your original post opined on what criminals do not give a shit about which opened up the conversation to a wide range of things. You went from an attempt to assign blame to one of motive. If you want the conversation to stay in a lane, then keep it in that lane.

Also I would not characterize what a criminal is doing relative to firearms as "surrendering" their rights. "Surrender" implies a willingness to give up the right, such as certain right surrendered by those joining the armed forces and the agreement to live under the rules of the UCMJ. Certain rights for suspected criminals are revoked or removed, often by force, before any conviction or due process, and the suspect has no say in the matter. And we could go back to the voting comparison and how voting rights are being limited without anyone willingly surrendering them.

As for your numbers on knife homicide, that is a red herring (fallacy). And I have no idea what exit you used to get to your rebuttal of blame without causation. What you were attempting to do was assign blame to Democrats without providing any causative link that demonstrates how policies enacted by Democrats resulted in more homicides. You are discussing circumstance. I am talking about causation.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - Because i know you are going to latch on to that 3281 unspecified fire arm number, I extrapolated how many of those would likely be by rifle, using math. Take 364 and add 6368 which equals 6732. divide 364 by 6732 to get the percentage of rifle homicides, which equals .054, Multiply .054 and 3281 and you come out with 177.4, or rounding up to 178. 364+178 = 542. You still have double the chances of being knifed to death, far more likely to be shot and killed by a handgun, and an even chance of being killed by bare hands. Yet, RIFLES are the problem.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - my opening post specified "criminals do not give a shit about gun control" very narrow and specific topic of conversation, in which I presented cities with the highest rates of homicides, which many happen to be democrat controlled for decades, and have the toughest gun restrictions in the United States. - tap dance all you want.

talk about cherry picking, you cannot even quote the whole sentence in your endeavor to slant the argument. Do you work for a major news network by chance?

SFC Stephen H. - That is an interesting take. I will have to consider it... Though given the government can tax your income... (thinking out loud - or in type here), and also taxes tobacco and alcohol, the ability to obtain income, drink and smoke must be privileges afforded to you by the government rather than rights.... They did, for a time, try to suspend the "privilege" of making, distributing, and consuming alcohol by Constitutional amendment, but as I am sure you know, that was repealed... but the fact they were able to do that in the first place may support your reasoning that these things are in fact privileges and that the government has the authority to determine if you can have an income and can dictate what you put in your own body... e.g. drug laws.... The government also taxes property ownership and sales... commerce, so by your reckoning these things are privileges and may be revoked at any time for any reason the government deems fit... such as imminent domain laws? Though we do have amendments (4th) that state people will be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects... and yet the government can still tax these things and, in some cases, license these things....

Not sure I am completely sold, but an interesting angle.

Deaths due to stairway accidents ~ 12,000 per year. Deaths due to AR-15s: Less than 400 per year. We should be banning stairways, not AR-15s. Gun control is about CONTROL...not about saving lives.

The question when incidents like this happens is "WHY". To actually ask this question will mean that people will have to actually do some hard work to fix the problem but they would rather blame an inanimate object.

I mean what are people going to do when they finally realize that their hatred for people different form them is the problem.
