My daughter was commissioned yesterday. I’ve done about as much as I could as a parent but, she’s in the Army’s hands now.

Back in “the day,” I had an uncomfortable conversation with a 1stSgt who hated Lt’s. I explained to him that I appreciated his insights, experience, and counsel. Young Lt’s need guidance... from every rank. Oddly, he took me under his wing.

So today, I ask the same from anyone reading this. Take the time to train your young officers. Pass along your “hacks” and insights. Form these young men & women into the leader that you would be proud to call “your Lieutenant.”

Congratulations to all of the newly commissioned officers. May your career bring you wild adventures, growth, and success.

It’s true that young officers are only as good as the NCOs who mentor them.

You try to raise them right and then she became an Army officer anyway.
Congratulations
