Good Saturday morning, Burroughs Posse Leader from the rainy skies of Greater Boston as a large storm moves through... More coming, stay tuned... LOL!

Back in gear, so moving smartly ahead on this dreary rainy day in New England...

“Serenity Day!” Why Not?

1) "Learn silence. With the quiet serenity of a meditative mind, listen, absorb, transcribe, and transform." - Pythagoras

2) "Enthusiasm is a supernatural serenity." - Henry David Thoreau

3) "The day is always his, who works in it with serenity and great aims." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

4) "Radiate an energy of serenity and peace so that you have an uplifting effect on those you come into contact with." - Wayne Dyer

5) "Develop serenity and quiet attitudes through your conversation. Depending upon the words we use and the tone in which we use them, we can talk ourselves into being nervous, high-strung, and upset. By our speech, we can also achieve quiet reactions. Talk peaceful to be peaceful." - Norman Vincent Peale

These quotes are all quite appropo, but how does it affect leaders and leadership? Read on...

“Serene leaders are emotionally balanced, calm under pressure, and they have the fortitude to move mountains!” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

I expect that you have experienced the peace of God in challenging times more than once. I hope that you have learned to grieve completely without attempting to rush that painful process. No doubt you have learned to care and have compassion without worrying. ‘The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ [Philippians 5b-7 ESV] my brother-in-Christ Sgt (Join to see).

I pray for an increase of peace in families, neighborhoods and on the streets tonight especially in the major cities of this nation, UK, India, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Australia, Japan, and China. ‘'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.' [John 14:27 ESV]
I lift those of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who are grieving significant loss through death of family members and friends; business loss and/or damage, health challenges, and evictions to YOU LORD. I pray that YOU bless each one with a large measure of contentment in safe places as they grieve to completion ‘For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter. [2 Corinthians 7:10-11 ESV]
I pray for a secure night for each deployed service member, police and agents on duty, emergency room personnel, fire and rescue and EMT. I pray that none will die without the eternal security of personal relationship with you. Bless their family members with a secure and peaceful sleep and ability to rest in the comfort that YOU are their shield and buckler. ‘How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy; [Isaiah 52:7-8a ESV]
I lift the US Senators and US House Represnetives to YOU. I pray that YOU guide the wise and the able to come to agreement on how best to execute their legislative responsibilities. Enable them to seek wise counsel and to develop equitable solutions to COVID relief, sufficient funding for police and security, and all other operations. I pray YOU bless them with wisdom to equitably divide workload and delegate non-essential functions to able subordinates ‘So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. And they judged the people at all times. Any hard case they brought to Moses, but any small matter they decided themselves. '[Exodus 18:24-26 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members sleep well Saturday night and will awake refreshed and healthy on Sunday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

Good morning Col Burroughs and Posse. Happy New Year to all and may it be a good one for our country and the world
Serenity is a state many have difficulty achieving. We involve ourselves in other people's drama. I spend a lot of time advising clients that they have to differentiate between things they can do something about and those they cannot. (Hence the Serenity Prayer) We would all be a lot happier and healthier if we let go of things we cannot control and focused on the ones that we can. In this new year, what can you do to find more serenity in your life?

I am sure this will be posted several times- but this is something my mom told me when I was first in the military and have carried it ever since. It has stood the five decades I have served and deserves to be shared many times over.

I have AA to thank for introducing me to the Serenity Prayer and re-discovering my faith for the strength to carry on. That and Isaiah 40, 31 kept me going when I thru-hiked the 2,200 mile Appalachian Trail a few years ago.
