I am going to make an assumption many members of the military are buried in shallow graves.

PO3 Bob McCord - I have heard of small islands in the Pacific covered with small human bone fragments, and islanders who dig finding larger pieces of bones.

This is a little known story of the agency to repatriate MIAs. A civilian pilot was also looking for MIAs on his own dime tried to corroborate his work on a Pacific island called Tarawa. The agency treated Mark Noah with hostility and refused to work with him. Despite all of the acrimony, he was instrumental in finding 40 marines in an orderly mass grave. PO3 Bob McCord
