I know I was ok with running in the cold even in rain but heat wasn't easy. On very hot days I tried not to run and if I did it was still a lot better better on cooler days. i won't claim any marathons though, never ran one, My longest distance without any stops was 10 miles. My brother did run marathons though including the Boston Marathon and at least He was in the top 500 finishers when He ran which He had done approx 6 times if My memory is correct. My connection with that Marathon, I watched Him run. He had run other Marathons as well and on one, the Silver Lake Marathon, which ran some of the same roads Boston did He placed 19th. He also would run the annual Mount Washington Road race where they ran 8.5 miles up the mountain and was always in the top 20% of those that finished. Not for Me, I don't run up mountains. I did run Cross Country and was co Captain in the college team. Those races were 5 miles. My practice runs then were from 5 to 10 miles.

It sounds like that Marathon in St Louis wasn't very well planned out. If Your a seasoned runner or not You still have to be careful, the result may not be good otherwise. The race planners didn't provide the safeguards that should always be in place. Yep, it did sound like the Marathon from hell.
