I normally wouldn't share something like this here, but I learned something today that amazed me.
My Great Uncle passed away in the early hours of October 18th. In the time I knew him, I thought of him as a good man. He was a South Dakota Highway Patrolman, and when I was attending South Dakota State University joked (I think) with me about kicking my ass around the planet if I got in trouble. He was a Captain with the Highway Patrol at the time. When my Grandmother passed in March I was worried about his failing physical health, despite him being sharp as a tack mentally.
The part that amazed me is I had no idea that he had served in the Marine Corps. Like my Grandfather, his brothers, and my uncle, he didn't talk about it when the family gathered. At least with the others in my family, I knew they had served. With Uncle Jerry I had no idea.
Tomorrow he will be interred in the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Most of us who sever have learned the less said the better. Trouble is this has come at a cost because it is with sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes we can strengthen and encourage those around us. So on many levels, I am sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

LTC Thomas Tennant Thank you for the kind words. You are about encouraging each other. Part of what I like so much about RP.
