As I've gotten older I find the "softer" arts more attractive: tai chi, ba gua, aikido, etc.

I'm with you guys...the softer stuff for these old bones....but I still like Krav Maga..but no more jumping.....If I want to kick someone in the head I'll kick them in the groin first and wait for them to fall..Or a system that incorporates canes and such for later in life

SSG (Join to see) a man after my own heart. A 7' man is suddenly 3' tall if you kick in the side of their knee.

I am a huge fan of Krav Maga. I practiced it for years, easy to learn and remember. Its a great example of "work smarter, not harder."

Old fashioned Kung Fu is my favorite. The blocks are soft blocks where you redirect your opponent. much easier on the old bones.

SMSgt Thor Merich I have been trying to find a good sifu in my area. Not much around here, though.

Nearly every "style" has something to offer. Been training some kind of Martial Arts since my teens. About 20 years ago I began training Kajukenbo on Maui, still on that path. Also currently cross train Submission Grappling/BJJ, Bujutsu Judo, and Kuntao Silat. All the shrinks I've seen have recommended I continue to train. So...I say find a Kwoon (school/academy) with a good instructor, and train. A good instructor should be able to share training with ANYONE regardless of physical challenges. If you are concerned about getting injured, share that with the instructor ahead of time. You may have to check out several places/instructors before you find one that you are comfortable with. Martial Arts is a very rewarding hobby/activity, especially for Vets. Stay safe, peace.

SPC Greg Hoyt Hell yes! It is remarkable the serenity one can find in a discipline of physical nature. Your body naturally wants an outlet. Most people only see the physical side, they always tend to ignore the spiritual/meditative side of the martial arts.
