Both great reads! I know it is not Roman, but have you read "Gates of Fire"....the battle of the 300?

I have only read Hesiod Herodotus, Thucydides, and Plutarch as it relates to Thermopylae and Greek history, but I will look into that. I have the complete works of Plutarch, both the Parallel Lives and Moralia. I will definitely look at "Gates of Fire" as additional reading!

Gates of Fire is not so much of a historical account, as some liberties have been taken, but it is still one of my all time favorites that I read every couple of years, along with Once an Eagle and the Brotherhood of War series.

That did seem different. I loved the article though! I got a lot of insight into the Roman military. Just think laurel wreaths were given to those who won the ancient Olympics. Even in the modern Olympics, they have laurels as well.
