Good post and very interesting that the media picked this up. What is the media's intent here? It's not to show that the child has lived here for 10 years illegally. It's not to show that she requires medical attention that she is probably receiveing for free. No, it's to show how evil Trump is with his heartless immigration stance. There was another picture or ad on the article I read. It was a picture of a little girl and below it stated families shouldn't be broken up. Don't we break up families in America. Some voluntarily break up via divorce and some break up when one member violates the law. So why do illegal aliens get extra rights. Clearly we should treat this little 10 yr old. But then send the bill to Mexico and send her home. These Liberals can't have it both ways. We are a nation of laws. They certainly want to enforce gun laws. So why should illegal trafficking of humans be viewed differently.

My big problem with this is as a former paramedic and a nurse an ambulance should be included in the "sensitive area" policy. It would be the same sat stopping a fire truck on the way to a fire to check for papers or stopping a police vehicle on the way to a mass shooting at a school, you just don't interrupt the operation of emergency vehicles. As an example recently my father went into respitory acidosis, I am a CCRN and I recognized his symptoms. I won't get into the details but they did not want to transport him and were not exactly in a rush at first to get him to the hospital that is 40 minutes away. He almost died and had to be intubated as soon as he arrived at the hospital. Now that 2-3 minute stop at a checkpoint could have been the difference between life and death for my father, at least brain death. Even though his o2 level was reading at 79% his ph was 7.1 and HCO3 was 43 and his PaCO2 was 70 he does have brain damage but he was blue and unresponsive when I found him and it was 20 minutes for ems to get to us.

Stopping an ambulance for a checkpoint is a dangerous precedent for everyone that involves ALL citizens that could mean life or death.

Yes, that is pretty dumb. How are they gonna ask someone if they are a US citizen when CPR is being performed or they have an oxygen mask on or are overall confused. I would think an ambulance carrying a patient would be just passed through. Common sense and officer discretion can be utilized by Border patrol, and not just regular police, at least one would think.

Again "sensitive area" that rule is in play for different reasons. The first and main issue is as I stated above, you need to stay out of the way of emergency operations. The second is how many people/children could die because people are afraid to seek help out of fear of deportation. That is why there is a sensitive area policy because with out it people will not report crime or acts of violence, they may not seek help when needed and those things effect all of us.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - well said. Having a civil (not criminal) immigration violation should not carry a death sentence because INS wants to search an ambulance at two in the morning.
