When I journal or pray or meditate I sometimes get something unexpected. Anyone else have that happen?

Here’s something I wrote in response to a meditation on Healing ❤️‍

“So how can I live my life free from self condemnation, utter despair and disappointment about myself and my wounded-ness?

I cannot.

I can only save myself from myself by repeatedly, consciously, humbly putting it aside.

That is incredibly frustrating to me in this moment.

I am stuck on the idea that one day I will find THE piece of knowledge or trick or healing strategy to remove hurt and distress from my life. Like a genie who can blink their eyes and magically grant a wish. Blink. Gone. Forever.

But, dear child, our hurt and distress is within us. In our flesh. Our old nature, our very human nature, is still with us. That is what torments us. It will dominate if we don’t set it aside.

Setting aside something doesn’t mean it magically disappears. It still exists. And if it’s something you don’t want anymore, when you see it, you put it aside again. And again. With help if needed. If it weighs a ton, then call in the big guns. Hire the crew to put it aside again.

This skill is not magic. But it can help dealing with the circumstances of this life.“

Beautiful thoughts.
I do get unexpected things come to mind sometimes when I journal or meditate. Sometimes when these things cycle around, think of them like a spiral staircase, each time we come back around, we are on a different level, so little by little we climb away from the base issues, as we work on them. Just my thoughts.
Keep working, sounds like you are doing the right things.

Sgt Sheri Lynn sounds like you're describing a wound to your "soul". I had my Pastor explain what that means... at the request of my VA CENTER Counselor. Recovery is a continual process for me... you're correct... it's not magic... but if putting it aside is working for you do it.

I'm assuming you're working with a trained Counselor...

Hi Charlie. I don't think that Sheri is talking about denial when she talks about "putting it aside." "Putting it aside" in the physical sense can mean denial, it can mean not being aware. However, "putting it aside" in the spiritual sense means being aware and "turning it over to God."

"When I journal or pray or meditate I sometimes get something unexpected. Anyone else have that happen?" YES, Sheri!!!!
Matter of fact, unless there is an "A-HA!" in the meditation, it means that I've not dropped down into meditative trance the way that I am motivated. If there's no, "A-HA!" then it feels "flat" with no new insight.
But when I drop down into alpha and theta brainwave trance, and beta brain waves have gone "to sleep" for awhile, I am going to experience that "A-HA!" moment and my meditation will feel that the Holy Spirit has come. And, actually, it has, for Jesus says, "the Kingdom of God is within you." When we've arrived at that "Kingdom of God within," when we've arrived at the alpha and theta brainwave trance, "I. . . .get something unexpected."

SP5 John Cox, DCSW, DD thank you for your response, and encouragement. I totally agree that if I just give scripture or meditation a cursory examination I am going to miss out.

You know, you are very wise:)
And a blessing to me and so many others
