A memorial established by a Fort Bragg-based unit pays tribute to the fallen soldiers charged with combating the signature weapon of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Hall of Heroes, dedicated Thursday at the North Carolina post by members of the 192nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion and guests, honors the 45 EOD soldiers who died in the line of duty while deployed since March 2001.
Seven of those soldiers served with the 192nd, including Staff Sgt. Jonathan P. Schmidt, whose wife attended the ceremony.
Unit leaders, including Command Sgt. Maj. Samuel Turner, created the display not just as a tribute, but as a window into the unit's past for new members, many of whom have not participated in the types of missions that claimed the lives of their fellow EOD specialists.
"The day we fail to remember to honor our fallen, the day we forget that we serve a higher purpose than just ourselves, that is the day we lose focus on what it means to be a soldier," 192nd commander Lt. Col. Benjamin Lipari said in a statement.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL ,
This is awesome and it also shows the significant contribution factor that each member of our team provides; regardless of MOS. Thanks for the share.

I saw this yesterday on Facebook. Please use EOD tags. 89D, 20th Support Command, 192nd Ordnance, and Fort Bragg. 192nd EOD is still barely known on Bragg.
