DOD 6130.03 Instruction stated that anyone on the Autistic spectrum is permanently disqualified from serving in the Armed Forces.
I do not know if that is still current, so further research is warranted to confirm or deny.
Even if still valid, a self diagnosis is likely not enough it would take first a medical opinion, then a PEB I would think.

Though I would bet a self admitted condition of Asperger's would certainly trigger a medical review ..A commander would be nuts not to.

AR 40-501 standards of medical fitness is where the answer to any question is looked up. When we do physicals or routine exams we refer there and discuss whether or not to med board or qualify.

SGM Erik Marquez - It's a fair enough assumption to consider the re-enlistment angle, and I cannot fault it. There just seems to be enough variance in the symptom/disorder severity for patients with ASD, Dyslexia, et c. that I'd rather see a little more leeway even in the enrollment/enlistment parameters than that DoDI leaves. Even so much discretionary room as is allowed for ADHD (no long-term medication, nor accommodation/assistance since age 14, nor history of violence or legal trouble), instead of the one-size-fits-none hardline against them based on worst-case scenarios.
In fact, by one biographer's assessment, General Patton himself was likely an undisclosed or undiagnosed dyslexic.

MAJ (Join to see) - Sir we see rules become more generalized and restrictive when the need for accessions goes down, and the same rules rewritten and less restrictive when the need for accessions goes up.
Same with waivers ...
None of that is lost on you Im sure.

As harsh as it seems........If we only need 100 new bodies this week, and we have 200 offering services, you pick the MOST eligible 100 candidates..... And some, that are likely ok for service will be denied due to a condition that MAY or MAY NOT cause issue Because if you can avoid that issue all together, why would you not?
