Sgt John H. - If you didn't get shot, mugged or firebombed first. Some of these places even the police don't patrol. Some very bad people along Brush, McNichols and the Cass Corridor. I worked that area for about 15 years and though I am a native Detroit, I rarely felt comfortable and was always checking over my shoulder for signs of trouble. I love Detroit but only go there for the Tiger and Lions games which are in a relatively safe part of the city.

LTC Wayne Brandon understood that was the focus of my sarcasm! Sad to see what was once the capital of automobile production in the entire world in such a state

PO1 H Gene Lawrence - Yep, I see that now. Northwest Detroit is still pretty much okay as it borders on Oakland county where life gets pretty nice for folks. There is a beautiful section on Woodward just South of 8 Mile Rd called Palmer Park and Palmer Woods where many of the very wealthy business owners and business leaders lived such as the Firestones and Duponts - Captains of the industry, you might say. I would drive through there and dream about one day living in one of those opulent homes with slate roofs, leaded glass windows, marble floors, ornate moldings, etc. When the city began to turn, many people fled to the suburbs and the homes were taken over by several families who all lived in one house - that was the only way they could afford them. Over the past twenty years these homes were taken over by the Yuppies and the area is making a nice comeback. Here is one example...
