I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

If you ever:
wore yellow, nylon PT shorts
rode in a REAL deuce and a half
know what a gamma goat used to be
were transported in a cattle car
wore and washed in a steel pot
realized your M16 was built by the lowest bidding contactor
lived in WWII era barracks
thought the only definition of, "offensive" was "taking it to the commies"
actually put 2 shelter halves together to make and sleep in a tent
pressed your duty uniform
spit shined your boots
ate MREs...

My first M16 was built by Hydramatic Division of General Motors. The second by Colt Industries. In the north, the fuel oil that heated the WWII era barracks would thicken and ... no heat.

When I first was handed an M16A1, I thought it looked like a toy - plastic and pot metal. I was used to seeing wood and steel rifles.

If you know what wall to wall counseling is...
Shine your boots with spit and kiwi with a brown tshirt
curse
drink at a NCO club on post
have weekly inspections of room in barracks by 1SG
all pictures on barracks wall framed
wear a banana suit for PT
starched your BDUs and Class B
sing cadence without repercussion
drive a 1/4 ton
drive a deuce and a half
smoke indoors
cattle car rides singing AC/DC songs
met the PT standard when you graduated basic training!!!!!!!!

On active duty from 77/81 spent time at Bragg, over 6ft tall and drove a gamma goat for a while, you know it was a death trap. Way too hard to get in and out of the driver's seat, had a deuce and a half with no breaks once. Drove from Ft Bragg to Eglin AFB, on an exercise got pulled over driving a 1st Lieutenant by MP's speeding so he could catch a helicopter back to Bragg but he never spoke up for me. Thank you sir.

My basic training included the M1 Garand, BAR, M1919 machine gun and 3.5” rocket launcher. We occasionally traveled in 2 1/2 ton trucks and m37 3/4 ton trucks but, mostly by all leather combat boots. This was in 1961

Did all that, including PT without a Fatigue Shirt, but in Combat Boots in my white V necked T shirt. Rode in a UH-1 D, carried an M-14 as a combat weapon (and thought it superior to the Made by Mattel M-16. Still do. Qualified expert with an M-1911A1, fired a grease gun, sawed the stock off an M2 .30 Carbine and wrapped it with tape. Eisenhower said "There's nothing like the 'old Army. There never was.' I take exception to that, General.

Brasso
Old school if you wore the LBE that needed to be touched up with MNU before Change of Command ceremonies. Also using Brasso to polish the brass door handles at BN or BDE.

If you considered "brown shoe Army" the equivalent of "old school".

I volunteered to be a fireman, thinking traditional "FIREMAN" only to find out it meant putting coal in the pot belly stove all night long. Lived in a prisoner of war barracks at Fort Gordon for my Basic Training. I believe I qualify as "OLD SCHOOL".
