For me, it is lost time with family that I can never get back. For the first few years on active duty I could just come home and be a part of the family again, but we've grown apart more and more over the years. Nowadays when I visit, it's like I'm talking to strangers.

All I ever wanted was company command. When I got it I realized all I wanted was to be a platoon leader. No joking. Serious answer. I was never so happy in and with the Marine Corps as when I was a rifle platoon leader.

PTSD. That was the hardest battle in my life. Nothing else comes close.

MAJ (Anonymous): Hubby only did two years Army. They didn't know each other's real names, just the nicknames, because here today gone in a body bag tomorrow. So The Wall has names but he doesn't know those who he served with, just the panel numbers for the time he was there. The PTSD has now turned into what I call soldier's melancholy...did he live a life that honored those who didn't have one? I see many other vets going through the same thing. I only wish there was a way to give you peace.

Patricia Overmeyer - I wrote a PTSD Paper. It has helped some veterans. Do you think he might benefit from it?

MAJ Ken Landgren - Do you have it in pdf format? He may or may not benefit from it. I know I have clients who have PTSD and I have several resources available in my office that I give them, so I can always use it.

Sadly I know this feeling all too well. I developed asthma at 6 years in from exposure to toxic materials, but was thankfully able to stay in when I demonstrated that I could still pass a fitness test. I have to heavily train cardio every day to fight it, but I’m glad I got the chance to prove I’m still capable.
