Do I have to pay for cif if it went missing 2 years ago and not my fault?

So if I was tad and not in my room for over a month and a room change happened and some marines cut my locks and moved my stuff and now I'm missing about $300 of cif but it was over 2 years ago and I'm just now seeing it while checking out if I fill out a missing gear statement would they see it as my fault for now reporting earlier and my me pay or make me not pay?

Your unit would have to do a FLIPL and find you not at fault. Bad news is, you didn't call the MPs, you didn't do an inventory, and it's been two years. As far as any investigating officer will conclude, there is no proof so, you're either lying or were negligent and you'll be held responsible.

You might have shot yourself in the foot depending on the statute of limitations on a Report of Survey (ROS). I conducted two ROS investigations and the key litmus test is who actually caused the loss. The causation for the lost of gear were the other Marines. The second litmus test is are you credible during the investigation.

MAJ Ken Landgren exactly. Two years pass and Soldiers are required to sign for their clothing record periodically. He "should have" had three or four layouts in that time period. If he signed at any time acknowledging that the items were in his possession, then he's lost his credibility.

If you knew locks were cut and you failed to do an inventory as soon as you gained access, you failed yourself. However, there may be a requirement for an inventory to have been conducted, and documented, when the other Marines cut the lock to whatever contained your property. You should check Marine regulations. If required, but not completed, you may have a chance. I'd expect nobody is going to be pleased that you are 2 years past the event.

Bad news doesn't get better with time. In the Army you could opt to pay or ask for an investigation.
