try 45. I was signed 2 up days after discharge. Those old WW2 guys were on the ball with recuirtment

SGT (Join to see), my grandfather served in WWI, and was honorably discharged as a corporal from the U.S. Army on February 10, 1919. I don’t know exactly when he joined the American Legion, but I’m fairly confident he was one of the earliest members.
Here’s a certificate he received appointing him as a first lieutenant (in the American Legion) for his recruiting efforts in 1943.
