US Deported 230 Mílítary Veterans

1. Not all of the had the opportunity for citizenship. If your butt is in a war zone, INS still wants to have you make court appearances for the purpose of citizenship. The only people that can do that are REMF.

2. They were resident aliens, who enlisted legally. Their deportations, were for, for the most part, crimes that a whole bunch of citizen veterans get busted for after coming back into the world. Things similar to the things my nephew did that got him kicked out of his parents' house, and put into jail for. Understand...I think that every person who commits a crime should pay for it. No issue there. But deportation cuts them off from veteran's benefits, which they EARNED by serving their time honorably.

3. He slams Obama more in the report than he does Trump, for good reason...Obama has deported more people than Trump.

4. We need to look at this more rigorously. Incarceration and deportation for serious crimes, like drug distribution and murder? Sure. But ticky tack stuff? Nope...

PO1 Hector Maldonado - As I noted in my comment, one can have differing opinions on whether these veterans should have been deported ... but ... the deportations, also as I noted, weren't arbitrary. Nowhere did I say that these deported veterans weren't legally in the U.S. when they enlisted ... though some may have been illegal aliens since they enlisted with phony documentation. You are incorrect in your first point. I didn't realize these guys in the below article were REMFs ... one of a number of readily available examples ...

LTC (Join to see) - Good point sir. However, in reading the same story, you will notice that the expedited process did not begin until 2002 under President Bush. In the past, a soldier or sailor who had to go through the process did not have the resources these soldiers did. Additionally, while the active duty troops got the benefit of an expedited process, the veteran who had honorably served did not. I would like to see a re-examination of the veteran's cases, and if there was a misunderstanding or a downright failure to assist these troops while on active duty to achieve citizenship, then that should be taken into the equation. If it is found that they had every opportunity to get naturalized but they didn't take it, then I see the point there. However, if the needs of the service precluded said troops from completing the process because of deployment, that should be taken into consideration as well. There have been accusations that troops completed necessary documentation but it was "lost or misplaced". What should be the punishment for those who lost or misplaced items?

PO1 Hector Maldonado - nd how many of the 230 deported veterans under discussion here were deported prior to the expedited citizenship process for legal residents begun 15 years ago? I believe the answer is ... none. If so, it was on Bill Clinton's watch.

Having said that, I have no objection personally to giving some/all of the 230 veterans under discussion here a relook. My point was and remains that their deportation was neither arbitrary or targeted. (1) They did not get their citizenship via military service - for whatever reason and (2) The violated the law before, during, or after their service and hence, in accordance with U.S. immigration law, were deported. IMV, any relook should take into account the severity of the criminal action that resulted in their deportation.

If they were supposed to be naturalized as part of their service why did it not happen? If they were discharged with less than honorable circumstances then I get it. But we're all of them in these circumstances? I'm all for deporting criminal illegal aliens. I just don't want to hear that those who earned the right to be naturalized somehow slipped through the cracks.

I'm done with responding to any news story in the future! Every news story that peaks my interest, and I am sure plenty that do not, turn out to be false. I am sick and tired of being the idiot that fell for the fucking fake news!
