On April 16, 1940, Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller hurled the first and only Opening Day no-hitter in MLB history. He was the professional athlete to enlist in the military after the Pearl Harbor attack. Not content to sit on the sidelines as a PT instructor, he would serve in combat as a Chief Petty Officer aboard the USS Alabama. He was a gun-captain on a 40-mm antiaircraft mount that had a crew of 24.

Other notable names come to mind: Robert Mitchum, Jimmy Stewart, Audie Murphy, Ronald Reagan, James O’Keef, so many others paid their dues to their country.
Almost forgot Paul Newman.

patriotism doesn't entail blindly following whatever the flavor of the month politician says. it is more patriotic to stand up for your views than to stand up for the president
