I am at Camp Pendelton for a few days observing a BDE doing a JLOTS exercise and I am fascinated by the ships I see by the main gate. I tried to google these ships and I had no luck. I see the Palo Alto # 32 and the Monterey # 28.

The Army's LCU 2000 is a nice platform. I dealt with some while doing JLOTS.

Small RO/RO it looks like. Roll-on, roll-off transport. Note the ramp in the middle bottom pic.

I spoke to a Marine Sergeant and I forgot the acronym for it. I know it is a transport exactly like you described.

PO3 Bob McCord - It can hold 5 Abrahms Tanks or some sea cans.

Well, much as I hate to admit it, Army does have a lot of other ships/boats in addition to these LCU's. Let's not forget the Corps of Engineers and all they do to keep our waterways clear. Then there are lots of Prepositioning Ships, not all of which belong to Navy.

BUT, let's talk about the Army's BIG Ships - Army Gators - REALLY. Check this out: http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/6149/meet-the-biggest-and-baddest-ships-in-the-us-army

This is good enter operational experience because they make us learn about all the sister services in our Command and general staff officer course but it's good to learn from this exercise about the Army's Navy and of course the Navy's logistical landing craft and other amphibious ships.
