They do nothing when Kaepernick takes a knee during the National Anthem, so the public takes a knee during their games. Sounds right to me.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski considering that the Baseball Playoffs have been airing on FS1 I would say that sports broadcasting in general is going to need to adapt or die. With Direct TV's Sunday Ticket, Dish's RED ZONE, Sports bars showing every game all day on Sundays, it is also the ratings method that is going to need to adapt. It is easy to look at a random sampling and say that the rating are down. I have a hard time going to watch the Vikings games on Sundays because there is never any parking at my favorite watering holes. Nielsen does not account for the viewers who go to watch the games with their fellow fans. Because Nielsen uses a random sampling, and is partially reliant upon viewers corresponding with them, it could also be a statistical anomaly. That is less likely the case. Sports are like any other medium, they have to compete for entertainment dollars. Between the pregame protests, the excessive penalties, and other steps taken to neuter the sport in the name of safety and Satan Goodell's whims, Football is becoming less the sport it was and more a shell of its former self. I understand the need for player safety, but come on fifteen yards and a fine for "excessive celebration" those are the things that make people want to tune out. The other problem is that our society is has been lobotomized into thinking that Survivor, Big Brother, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and other "reality" TV shows are where entertainment lies.

Nielsen television ratings are gathered in one of two ways:

Viewer "diaries", in which a target audience self-records its viewing or listening habits. By targeting various demographics, the assembled statistical models provide a rendering of the audiences of any given show, network, and programming hour.
A more technologically sophisticated system uses Set Meters, which are small devices connected to televisions in selected homes. These devices gather the viewing habits of the home and transmit the information nightly to Nielsen through a "Home Unit" connected to a phone line. The technology-based home unit system is meant to allow market researchers to study television viewing habits on a minute to minute basis, seeing the exact moment viewers change channels or turn off their television set. In addition to set meters, individual viewer reporting devices, such as people meters, have allowed the company to separate household viewing information into various demographic groups, but so far Nielsen has refused to change its distribution of data of ethnic groups into subgroups[clarification needed], which could give more targeted information to networks and advertisers.
