Can a unit dictate who is allowed in a Soldier's hotel room?

Odd question I realize. However, my promotion ceremony is on Saturday. My wife is flying down to Nashville for the ceremony. My PSG is making my Squad Leader counsel me on paper that my wife is NOT allowed in my hotel room. They said you're on orders in a government provided hotel room. I was in government provided housing at Fort Leonard Wood and my wife and I both lived there. I don't understand their reasoning. They say that they don't want it to seem like they don't want my wife there, but that's how it seems. Additionally, they said we don't want to put you in a financial bind, but because they won't allow my wife to stay in my hotel room (which I am in alone), my wife has to purchase her own hotel room. UPDATE: I was not allowed to have my wife in my room, so I gave my room to another Soldier who's card was not working and stayed in the room my wife bought and paid for. I was counseled on 4856 counseling form prior to. PSG is also now not allowing me to put in promotion packet for E6 even though I'm eligible for promotion and fully qualified.

First, tell you PSG that Capt. Cable said they were being a Dick. He/She can contact me here and I'll give them a number to call me personally where I would be happy to discuss in depth their leadership style and shortcomings.
I would first talk to my PL, and if they don't have the proper answer, request an open door with the commander and 1st Sgt. WTF? Is this how they treat enlisted these days?

SFC Terry Bryant - Old thread now, and I agree, that my experience has been that the majority of the NCO's bust their ass trying to take care of their troops. My father was a retired Air Force Master Sergeant, his response to the situation above would have been the same as mine, maybe worse. Still, we all know that the toxic leaders are out there, NCO and Officer.

Not just enlisted even officers. They say army of one but im reality they don't care about us.

I recommend actually looking up Unit and base policy and SOP. 'If it aint in writing, it aint real', right? If you are going to challenge the system, you need to do your homework. Then go to work on the chain of command.

WTF? This is so wrong in so many ways! I traveled and stayed on the government’s dime multiple times and so did my unit’s members. We did encourage bringing spouses (transportation was on them but lodging paid for) along. And boy did we travelled: Hawaii, Korea, Europe, and Centra America!

Although I agree that this was a real f'd up situation you've got to wonder what would bring this on in the first place? Were there some negative issues in the past that the COC felt involved the spouse in a bad way. I've been in overseas assignments where the accompanying spouse caused many problems for the soldier and unit so was sent back stateside. I'm wondering if something similar may have happened in this case. We of course only get one side of the story.

SFC Robert Falco - A civilian in agreement. That would be the point of requesting the open door, to discuss the issue in its entirety. Having been in senior leadership roles for decades, its amazing how many times the other side of the coin can hold much to be discovered.

I agree with the Major unless they are splitting this room between you and another soldier (LIK) I don't get their reasoning.

I'm a civilian and this is FUBAR beyond being FUBAR. To me, this sounds like someone with an axe to grind going out of their way to make life hell for everyone.
