Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled UGC 1810: Wildly Interacting Galaxy from Hubble." UGC 1810 is the galaxy with the broad, sweeping blue arms in this photograph. Arp 273 (reddish) is a separate galaxy located left of center. Both show the force of gravity at work (and I first thought someone had created a 'Claude Monét' filter for processing Hubble images). UGC 1810 is expected to devour its galactic sidekick over the next billion years or so and settle into a classic spiral form. Both galaxies lie about 300 million light years away toward the constellation Andromeda.
