Okay my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell that the U.S. Army is working on developing an algorithm to determine how much caffeine is optimum for performance.
Since the caffeine in a cup of coffee varies from more in light roast to less in dark roast and by bean, this is an interesting idea.
Additionally medication, metabolism, body mass, food consumption in proximity to caffeine, alcohol levels and even cigarettes can affect caffeine levels in the body.
I drink at least a pot of coffee per day [12 cups minimum] of medium to light roast coffee and I take a host of medications.

It will be interesting if the Army encourages coffee consumption to optimum levels with Coke/Pepsi/RC/Mountain Dew, etc. as an alternate.

I can envision a caffeine subsistence allowance in the future :-)

"The Army wants you….awake. Since at least WWII, US military scientists have been tinkering with the human brain to keep pilots, soldiers and staff alert despite lack of sleep. Their enemies have as well: The Nazis infamously plied their ranks with methamphetamines (also known as speed).
But how can people stay awake safely (and ethically)? Few substances are as safe as caffeine used daily by 85% of the US population. Researcher Jaques Reifman, who works on high-performance biotechnology software for the US Army, sought to design an algorithm for caffeine-dosing strategies. His research, accepted into the peer-reviewed Journal of Sleep Research, developed software to learn people’s unique physiology and determine how best to counter lack of sleep under any conditions.
The Army’s plan was to develop a tool that prescribes exactly how much caffeine to consume, and when, to achieve optimal performance, Reifman said in an interview.
Caffeine affects everyone differently. Our bodies have unique metabolisms, while sleep patterns alter caffeine’s effects. To account for this, Reifman and his collaborators administered about a dozen brief response time tests, known as a psychomotor vigilance task (PVT), that informed algorithms assessing the optimal caffeine strategy to maximize alertness at precise times."

I drink about half as much as you but I also drink tea which has caffeine but not as much as coffee.

CW5 Jack Cardwell My coffee use has been tempered by my caffeine sensitivity, but I still believe that nothing will taste as good each day as my first sip of coffee in the morning.

Most know how much their body can handle satifactorily... being told one is required to consume x amount per day. Unless that amount is at or lower what a person consumes. Beyond what they can handle it would be a bitter cup to consume.. not as enjoyable. I do a pot of about 8 cups.. my cups are about 11 Oz. I might put in about 9 0z including cream ..I usually have about a cup left. I let cool down and in the frig it goes for a while.
Then out it comes and it already has some Irish cream .. pour it over some crushed ice..
